For older homes that were not installed with hand held or manual bidets, then fret no more because this plumbing fixture can be added in any of the bathrooms in a home. More and more people are discovering the great benefits of having a bidet, and those who cannot afford to install a full bidet toilet, a hand-held one can be a good alternative.

The Spruce came up with a comprehensive blog post on bidets. It mentioned that apart from being eco-friendly it benefits those who may have health concerns like those who have hemorrhoids and inflammatory bowel syndrome who may get irritated with the use of paper products to clean up after themselves. Moreover, bidets are a must for some Asian and European nationals. Plumbing Association of San Diego

"While the numerous advantages of a bidet may sound appealing, the installation of an additional fixture in your bathroom may be out of the question. Fortunately, there are all sorts of options you can buy that don't require a complete remodel. These range from so-called "smart toilets" with built-in bidet functions (not to mention foot warmers and Bluetooth music systems, but that's a whole separate story). You'll also find a number of high-quality seats and hand-held attachments on the market that provide add-on bidet functions to an existing toilet."

"The bidet was developed in the 17th Century by the French. It is a plumbing device used to wash human buttocks. This fixture is common in southern European countries, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Bidets are not meant to be used instead of toilet paper rather they are used together. Bidets come in multiple shapes and forms. They can be completely separate from the toilet or they can be attached onto the toilet."

For those whose only option is to install a bidet faucet, the website SF Gate provided an easy-to-follow guide.

"Shut off the water at the main. If the bidet is a new installation, install the faucet before placing the bidet in its permanent spot. Install the spray assembly, found typically on Kohler and Kallista models, if present. Apply a ring of plumber's putty to the bottom of the shank and thread it through the spray hole. Thread the flange on top of the assembly and tighten it with an adjustable wrench. American Standard models also feature spray assemblies, but the instructions ask you to assemble them after you do the valve bodies and the drain."
